This high porosity enables Huali Diatomite Functional fillers to absorb liquids up to 2.5 times their own weight. Unique Particle Structure. Diatomite particles are characterized by their irregular shapes and pore structures. One pound (454 grams) of Huali diatomite has a surface area of over 97,000 sq. ft. (over 9,000 sq. meters), which is several times greater than any other mineral with the same particle size. High Bulk per Unit Weight. Loose diatoms in a mass do not readily pack together and provide high-bulking values without adding significant weight. As a result, the typical loose weight of Huali diatomite is less than 10 lbs. per cu. ft. (160 g/l), significantly less dense than most competitive mineral additives.
